Margaret A. Shauers

Biography

Margaret A. Shauers, 68, died March 17, 2012 at her home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 20, 1943 at Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of John F. and Leona Anne (Stegman) Krmela. She married Gerald D. Crotinger April 14, 1959 at Olmitz, Kansas. They later divorced. She then married Delbert M. Shauers December 27, 1962 at Ness City, Kansas. He died September 9, 1995. A longtime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Shauers was a freelance author and novelist having had many novels, short stories, and poetry works published. She was owner and operator of Shauers' Engine Service. She also worked as a staff writer at Barton Community College in the communications department and taught creative writing at the college.

Mrs. Shauers was a member of Kansas Authors' Club and First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend, where she taught Sunday School and was a nursery attendant.

Survivors include her companion, friend, and caregiver, Gerald D. Crotinger, Hays, Kansas; one son, James "Butch" Crotinger and his wife Laura A. Ward, Santa Fe, New Mexico; two daughters: Rochelle Shauers, Overland Park, Kansas; and Debra Shauers, Bently, Kansas; one son-in-law: Craig Borger, Ogallah, Kansas; and seven grandchildren: Jamie Crotinger, Jeff Crotinger, Emily Ward, Eric Borger, Lisa Borger, Shawna Borger, and Brady Borger. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Suzanne Irene Crotinger.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend. The Reverend Dr. Scott V. Solether will officiate. Burial will be in Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the CKMC Foundation to benefit the Heartland Cancer Center or the McKenna Dirks Education Fund, in care of the funeral home.
